> Father Jim Williams Fund
In
June of 2000, the Mackinac Island Community Foundation held
its first ever Outstanding Service Award Gala. Nearly 150
Mackinac Island residents and visitors joined one another
in the Terrace Room at Grand Hotel for an elegant dinner in
honor of Father Jim Williams. The event raised money for the
community foundation and recognized the service of Ste. Anne’s
pastor.
MICF presented Fr. Jim Williams with its
first Community Service Award in recognition of his many activities
to benefit all segments of our community. Michigan Governor
John Engler, Mrs. Michelle Engler and then Attorney General
Jennifer Granholm co-chaired the event, donated entirely by
Grand Hotel including a reception, five course dinner and
an overnight stay and breakfast the next morning.
This Fund was established by the Board of
Trustees of the Mackinac Island Community Foundation in honor
of Father Jim Williams in recognition of his efforts on behalf
of the residents and visitors of Mackinac Island, on the event
of the thirtieth anniversary of his ordination and his receipt
of the Foundation’s first ever Outstanding Service Award.
The Father Jim Williams Fund for Mackinac
Island was created with $33,500. It is an unrestricted fund
to support the general grantmaking activities of the foundation.
As needs change on Mackinac, grants from this fund will change,
but they will continue to be made in Father Jim’s name.
