Funds > Margaret W. and Wesley H. Maurer Scholarship Fund

Donated to the Foundation by the Mackinac Island Board of Education, this is one of the first scholarship funds established for Mackinac Island students.

Margaret and Wesley Maurer, Sr. were co-publishers of The Mackinac Island Town Crier and The St. Ignace News and were valued members of the Island community for many years. They always maintained a strong affection for Mackinac and a great respect for education. In 1989, they established a scholarship fund to help Mackinac Island High School graduates pursue higher education. In 1997, at Mrs. Maurer's request, the scholarship fund was donated to the Mackinac Island Community Foundation, so that by consolidating investments, the annual award would be larger, thereby securing the future of the Maurers' scholarship fund for the 21st century.
