Thanks to all who supported the 2004 MICF fundraiser, Turtles Around Town.

Funds > Music Fund

The Music Fund was created by the Mackinac Island Music Festival in 1996 when that group disbanded. Income from this fund will continue to promote cultural programs and facilities on Mackinac Island for generations to come.

A community concert by “Song of the Lakes,” a historical folk music performance group, was sponsored through a grant from this fund.

The photos below were taken at a Winter 2004 performance at the Mackinac Island Public School financed by the Music Fund. Kevin Collins teaches students about African culture, African music, and a variety of percussion instruments to coincide with Black History Month. Kevin is part of the Michigan Arts and Humanities Touring Group and directs an African Drum and Dance Troupe in Flint, Michigan.
